What About Dads?

This training will explore the role of the father in a child’s life and its importance. The role of the father is particularly important in Wraparound Services based on the unique circumstances by which our clients seek our services. Engaging fathers is critical to the client/agency relationship. Participants will gain a better understanding of the historic distrust of fathers and will receive an inside look at the various reasons as to why there may be a father’s distrust of the Child Welfare system. Implicit bias and policies that have historically alienated fathers from the Child Welfare system will be explored. Participants will learn engagement strategies for cultivating healthy relationships between the father, the child, and the agency.

Topics Include:

  • K1 Understand common misconceptions
  • K2 Review research supporting father involvement
  • V1 Identify best practices, strength-based father engagement
  • V2 Identify ways to help re-engage absent dads
  • S1 Discuss “Right Now” actions
