Substance Use Disorders Identification, Treatment and CWS Intervention

This training will help participants identify behaviors associated with substance use, understand the neuroscience behind these behaviors, anticipate how these behaviors may impact children, and decide when this impact requires CWS intervention.

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the general neuroscience and behaviors/symptoms associated with addiction
  • Increase awareness of bias and stigma around people with substance use disorders and the impact it can have with engaging families
  • Identify the behaviors/symptoms associated with being under the influence of commonly used substances
  • Formulate questions around substance use to elicit the information necessary to complete a balanced and rigorous assessment
  • Value a respectful, strength-based and trauma-informed approach to listening and responding to families with substance use disorders
