Over time, Human Services has evolved in its approach toward helping clients, moving from simply “solving” immediate challenges to empowering clients with the right tools to overcome their own challenges. This interactive training builds upon one’s own knowledge and skills needed to engage and empower clients through meaningful interactions.
Designed as a four-part sequential series, the training introduces specialized interventions to develop, reinforce and support Human Services professionals’ efforts to help their clients grow.
The first workshop component of this series supports developing a growth mindset while practicing strength-based language and strategies. This will include instruction, opportunities for reflection and practice of skills and strategies that may promote positive change in the lives of those they serve as Helping Professionals.
After attending this training, participants will be able to:
- Define and identify both Fixed and Growth Mindsets.
- Define a “strengths-based approach in the context of casework.
- Endorse in writing and in discussions the importance of using a strength-focused approach to find a common bond and increase the chances of positive outcomes for the recipient and/or colleague.
- Practice differentiating between Fixed and Growth Mindsets and ways to facilitate a participant’s shift toward favoring a Growth Mindset.
- Apply strength-based, solution-focused questions and language to a case scenario to demonstrate skills that build rapport with recipients and enhance their shift toward approaching goals and challenges with a Growth mindset.
